Just so we’re all clear on what we just read. Black people make up 22% of the poor but only 14% of the government benefits. Meaning, 8% of poor Black people are not taking government benefits when they need them.

While, white people make up 42% of the poor but receive 69% of the government benefits. Meaning, there are white people who are classified as middle class who are receiving government benefits.

…but welfare queens and stuff.

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT!

Black people make up 22% of the poor BUT only 14% of the government benefits.

White people make up 42% of the poor BUT receive 69% of the government benefits.

This needs to go viral.

This is essential piece of information revealing racial bias AGAINST Black people in receiving government benefits.

Never again do I want to hear about White people living in poverty.

Never again do I want to hear about Black people living on government benefits.

Saturday Night Live: She's got a Dick -

bold-queer-writes:

Very conflicted on this sketch. On the one hand most of the jokes derive from the absurd reactions of cis people and thus we are supposed to be laughing at them. On the other hand, it relies on assimilation, passing privilege, and the approval of cis society. So this is definitely not a shining light for liberation politics, it is much more in line with assimilation. And furthermore, “she’s got a dick” places the power to name our bodies in the hands of cis people. Something we all to often feel.

At least there is no reference to her “really” being a man or other fucked up language that invites violence.

In general it seems to be a joke on the romantic comedy genera in general for making every “plot twist” hyper-melodramatic, when it never should have mattered in the first place, because love conquers all yadda yadda. Adding trans* people does not change that formula, for better or worse…

For me, personally, these concerns highlight all that is wrong with liberal representation politics. We are free only when we can be commodified and subsumed under traditional norms of society rather than fundamentally challenging them. Sure, more representation can be a good thing, but if we take representation as an inherent good and do not critically engage with its political implications, we run the risk of losing possible political futures beyond equality and assimilation.

Still borne and still breathing.  Watching one grow up and feeling the other one rot away inside of me.  When I’m home I get to see how happy one is for parent being home, when I am at work I get to hear the gurgling sounds of drowning to remind me what I’ve never or will ever fix.  A poisoned uterus.
